ABSTRACT: We all are aware of environmental degradation in our country and all around the world. The main cause of this issue is the continuous use of plastic for our daily purposes. The usage of plastic bags for different purposes leads to the soil as well as water pollution and is the cause of death of many marine animals. SVM Infraestate recently launched the SVM Go Green campaign to make people aware of waste management and how to shift towards green products. Figure 1: Rising Condition of Poor Waste Management in India

The problem of plastic waste is not a new scenario in India. According to a report from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), almost 3.3 million metric tons of plastic waste has been generated in the year 2018-19. In the year 2011, plastic waste management legislation was passed in the parliament to take some necessary steps regarding the ever-increasing problem of plastic waste management, but even after almost one decade, no such changes could be noticed in the environment. Mother Earth is degraded day by day and plastic waste plays a major role in the deterioration of the earth.

SVM Infraestate after several surveys noticed that most of the plastic waste is generated from plastic bags. Almost all of us are consumers of plastic bags and these plastic bags are non-Compostable. Basically, the plastic bags that we used in our household, or industrial areas are not breaking down and it divides into many smaller particles that later on mix with soil and water bodies such as rivers, oceans, etc. Hence, these small particles of plastic are one of the main reasons for soil and water pollution, and every year thousands of water body animals, as well as some terrestrial animals, die by eating those plastic bags.

In recent years the trend of Compostable plastic bags has started, but the main question is "Are these bags really Compostable?". Any kind of garbage bag that claims itself Compostable requires three conditions: - 1. Heat, 2. Moisture and 3. Oxygen. If the garbage bag is lacking any of these things, then the bag is non-Compostable. Not all the products that claim themselves Green Products are really Compostable.

There is a plethora of reasons to shift from plastic products to SVM Go Green products. Some of the major arguments are: -

  • Solid Waste Management Rule-2016 - Made it mandatory to segregate Waste at the source and Process the Wet Waste on-premises. Thus, Legally Required.

  • The same use: - the foremost reason for shifting to green products is the application of the products. You can use the green Compostable bags for the same purposes you use plastic bags.

  • Free from all kinds of chemicals: another significant reason to shift towards SVM Go green products is their unique feature of being free from all chemicals. You can use them without worrying about their harmful effect on your health.

  • Compostable Garbage Bags: - the most crucial feature of these products is that they are Compostable. They compose in the soil more quickly than other plastic products and don’t harm the environment.
